About this Event
“Technology may be inevitable, but our response to it isn’t.” — Berit Anderson (CEO and coFounder, Scout.ai)
Join us for the launch of Tech 2025’s new event series, Communities Defining the Future, where we shine a spotlight on other compelling communities around the world providing a platform for people to learn about and discuss emerging technologies and the future. Scout, which launched in 2016 after a successful Kickstarter campaign where they reached their funding goal in a week, is one such community and we’re excited to introduce them to you:
Scout is an online publication and social platform that maps the future of artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, brain implants, augmented reality, climate damage, genetic augmentation, and other emerging technologies with their community of scientists, technologists, NYT-bestselling authors, and strategic foresight experts.
Scout’s community of technologists, professionals and power nerds map the future implications of technology by submitting ideas and voting on predictions of what will happen next using near-term science fiction. Science fiction has inspired some of our greatest innovators (Sci-Fi Helped Inspire Elon Musk to Save the World).
For years, the world’s top leaders have relied on an unexpected tool to help them anticipate the future. President Ronald Reagan received weekly science fiction briefings while he was in office. Intelligence agencies frequently consult with science fiction authors and strategic foresight experts to help them set their long-term strategies and plans. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Sergey Brin, Steve Jobs and Paul Allen have all cited science fiction as key to shaping their worldview. For global leaders, science fiction is both a way to help anticipate and plan for the future — and a blueprint for the technologies they’re building today. Scout gives you that same insight.
Berit Anderson, CEO and coFounder of Scout, will be joining us to do a presentation and fireside chat with Charlie Oliver (CEO of Tech 2025) to discuss how and why she and Brett Horvath (coFounder, Scout), built a thriving community and business model around discussing emerging technologies and the future. What has Berit and her team learned about how people are thinking about the future and how to embrace the challenges ahead? And how does using sci-fi help? Find out at this special event where you’ll become part of the Scout community for the evening.
Attendees will also participate in an interactive, think tank session using Scout’s content and scifi as a guide. Lite food and beverages included.
