We invite you to our first discussion series about the impact of new digital technologies on journalistic roles and professional values.
The AI, Media & Democracy Lab is excited to invite you to our first discussion series about the impact of new digital technologies on journalistic roles and professional values.
Our guest speakers for this first session include Pablo J. Boczkowski (Northwestern University), Claudia Mellado (P. Universidad Católica de Valparaiso), Carolina Robino (BBC Mundo), and Edson C. Tandoc Jr. (Nanyang Technological University). The event will be moderated by Tomás Dodds (University of Amsterdam).
Journalism is still coming to terms with the transformations that new technologies have brought to the newsrooms. Journalists are not only struggling with changes regarding the temporalities of news production, the novel infrastructures of technology and materialities, or the new platforms that they are now being constantly pressured to use. News makers are further encountering, precisely as a consequence of these distortions, morphing professional roles and identities. In this workshop, we will address questions such as: How has the inclusion of new technologies in the newsroom changed the journalistic routine? How have the new temporalities and rhythms, product of new digital platforms, changed the relationship between journalists and their sources?
