Beyond Bytown: The History of Ottawa’s Tech Sector
As part of our summer lecture series, we would be having an exciting talk with Luc Lalande on the History of Ottawa’s Tech Sector
SPEAKER: Luc Lalande
As a recent university graduate in 1984, Luc noticed a job posting in the Ottawa Citizen describing a new and unique organization (the Ottawa-Carleton Research Institute) and was intrigued by the position description. OCRI, at the time, was established to connect Ottawa’s growing technology industry with partners in academia and government.
Since then, he has been directly involved in Ottawa’s research and technology-based ecosystem (government, university and industry). Over the past four decades, he has observed the high and low points of the city’s evolving tech sector and offers a wide-angle yet nuanced perspective on its past, present and future. In 2002, he was honoured to receive the Des Cunningham (Ottawa tech pioneer) Award from OCRI for outstanding leadership in forging business-education partnerships.
Luc will be joined by Rob Woodbridge for the discussion part of the Lecture. Rob is the founder of Trexity, he comes with the knowledge of a 30-year Ottawa startup participant as a founder, CEO, COO, advisor and mentor.
