Exploring Outreach Strategies for the Technology Sector
In this virtual tutorial, Mallory Knodel, CTO at the non-profit Center for Democracy & Technology, will provide an overview of ‘public interest technology;” what is it and how do technologists in this industry space engage in global standards development. Mallory identifies herself as a public interest technologies and works with standards organizations (e.g., SDOs) to engage in the standards development process. In her role she leads an informal group of other public interest technologists who find ways to pool resources and share insights across SDOs where issues relating to privacy, free expression, the digital divide and DEI are impacted or enabled through multi-stakeholder standard setting. Attendees will learn about the public interest technology sector and gain valuable insights and tips on how to better engage technologists working in the sector and the civil society advocacy organizations they work for.
