Join the UNSW Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation and the UNSW School of Mechanical and Manufacturing engineering in this online event to hear international nuclear law expert Helen Cook provide an introduction to nuclear law, and how it affects Australia’s decision to go nuclear.
Both domestic and international legal frameworks are a critical part of using nuclear technology.
Helen will provide an introduction to the law governing the use of nuclear energy including areas of nuclear-non proliferation, nuclear safeguards, nuclear security, nuclear safety and nuclear liability.
She will overview international approaches to the development of nuclear energy programmes in emerging nuclear countries and discuss legal considerations for Australia should Australia wish to develop a domestic nuclear energy programme.
Helen will draw on her experience advising on nuclear energy projects and transactions around the world.
Helen Cook is the Principal of GNE Advisory Pty Ltd., a law practice dedicated to all aspects of the civil nuclear sector.
Helen has expertise advising on both the establishment of the legal and regulatory infrastructure for civilian nuclear power programmes, as well as the negotiation of commercial contracts for new nuclear power plants, including covering procurement, construction and financing.
She has advised on nuclear projects and transactions in the United Kingdom, the United States, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Turkey, Japan, India, Estonia, Denmark, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Ghana and South Africa and represented governments, owner/developers, reactor vendors, export credit agencies, regulatory authorities, fuel suppliers, uranium traders and hedge funds on nuclear energy matters.
