An increasingly competitive landscape and rapidly changing consumer behaviours enabled by ongoing technological advances have acted as catalysts for retail change (Accenture, 2020; McKinsey & Co., 2020; Voyer and Ko, 2021). Nowhere is this more prevalent than in fashion retail, where various consumer-facing in-store technologies (CFIT) have been adopted to enhance the physical shopping experience in the face of stiff online competition (Pantano and Vannucci, 2019; Bonetti and Perry, 2017; McKinsey & Co., 2020).

Francesca Bonetti will share her research findings into the adoption and non-adoption, across the fashion industry, of new technologies from a managerial perspective. The research is timely as currently “retailers are understandably overwhelmed by the options and may adopt technologies without a clear picture of how they fit into their strategy” (Inman and Nikolova, 2017, p. 7)

Dr. Francesca Bonetti is a Lecturer in Marketing at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, London, UK. Francesca is a recipient of BA Languages and Culture with Economics (University of Modena, Italy, and Durham University, UK), M.Litt Marketing (University of St Andrews, UK) and Ph.D. Marketing ( University of Manchester, UK). She is a visiting lecturer at universities across Europe, the USA and Asia. Her research interests focus on business technological innovation across cultures in the fashion and creative industries, and the digital transformation of retailing. Her work is published in academic journals such as the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services and the International Journal of Technology Marketing, among others, and in a number of books.

Francesca has extensive international industry experience as business innovator and marketing communication strategist in the fashion and apparel sector. She currently consults for established and emerging brands on digital strategy and transformation.
