Nature and Nanotechnology: from butterfly wings to antiviral surfaces
Professor Kean’s lecture will describe the many nanotechnology examples in nature and how nanotechnology can be applied to healthcare.
In his inaugural lecture Professor Kean will discuss the many examples of nanotechnology in nature. These include butterfly wings and water harvesting beetles. There are also examples of synthesis of nanomaterials from many centuries ago. Professor Kean will discuss these together with an introduction to nanotechnology and how it can be applied to healthcare. Novel antimicrobial and antiviral surfaces will be described together with nano-sensors designed to measure molecules such as pathogens with incredible sensitivity.
