New Advances in Assistive Technology and Independent Mobility (Transport Planning Society)

Join us for this exciting event in the lead up to Transport Planning Day 2021!

TfGM’s vision is for Greater Manchester to have ‘world-class connections that support long-term sustainable economic growth and access to opportunity for all, to allow Greater Manchester to be the best place in the world to grow up, get on and grow old”. To meet the ambition set out in the Greater Manchester Strategy, we must ensure that everyone in Greater Manchester is able to use public transport to enable access to employment, training, health and leisure. With our aim, to allow people to lead productive, healthy and fulfilling lives. With this in mind, we must make sure that our transport network is as inclusive and accessible as possible.

Transport can have a major impact on people’s health. It provides access to healthcare and other services, enables people to visit friends and family, and links them with green spaces. The huge potential of walking and cycling to reduce car mileage, improve access to key facilities, and improve public health, is now widely understood. While recognising the role of personal choice in travel, we will encourage people who are able to do so to travel actively in order to improve their health.

This webinar, run by TPS in collaboration with TfGM, will explore how to understand the needs of citizens and the role of innovation and technology in providing opportunities for public transport users. In addition, we will consider the role of shared mobility, active travel and the role of social prescription in enhancing the lives of people within the city of Greater Manchester. There will also be a Q&A towards the end of the session, where participants can ask questions to the panel.

The event is finished.
