The rapidly growing world population is placing tremendous pressure on primary producers to develop new techniques that increase food production while maintaining safety and quality. To achieving production growth at scale, producers must embrace automation and process efficiency, which can only be achieved through a well-designed IoT and cyber-physical systems (CPS).
This seminar presented by Dr Negin Shariati will focus on sensor technology innovation as a fundamental part of a CPS. Negin will explore the three fundamental and interrelated streams that are constraints in the context of on-farm deployment: sensing, power and connectivity, and the importance of these streams for the effective usage and deployment of CPS in agriculture systems. Finally, Negin will explore the opportunities presented by sensor technology innovations, which lag behind other key CPS technologies and how it can contribute to securing a sustainable food future.
About Dr Negin Shariati
Negin Shariati is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and a visiting Senior Lecturer at Hokkaido University. She established the state of the art RF and Communication Technologies (RFCT) laboratory at UTS, where she is currently the Co-Director. She leads the Sensing Innovations Constellation at Food Agility CRC, enabling new innovations in agriculture technologies by focusing on three key interrelated streams; Sensing, Power and Connectivity. Her research interests are in Microwave Circuits and Systems, RF Energy Harvesting, Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer, low-power IoT and sensors, Antennas and AgTech.
