TOPIC: Washington Post CPO & CTO on Building a Tech Startup Within a Non-Tech Co.

The Washington Post has always been a journalism powerhouse. Over the last 10 years it has also emerged as a technology company. What is the role of technology within a media company? Can technology products not only serve to delight The Post’s readers and subscribers and advertisers but also become a sustainable source of revenue for The Washington Post? Is building a technology suite of products that serves its own needs but is also offered to other companies on-path or off-path to its core strategy?

About the speaker: Shailesh Prakash is the Chief Product and Technology Officer at The Washington Post. He is responsible for all aspects of product development and technology, including web, mobile, video, print, and advertising. Under his leadership, and in close partnership with the newsroom, The Post has seen tremendous digital growth. Prakash has also spearheaded the development of Arc XP, The Post’s fast-growing global software-as-as-service business. This state-of-the-art digital platform and suite of tools are engineered to meet the needs of publishers, broadcasters, and brands, and currently powers more than 1,500 sites in the U.S. and around the world.
