Webinar: Securely Operating through 5G Infrastructure Funding Opportunity

The NSF Convergence Accelerator, in partnership with DoD, has a new funding opportunity focused on operating securely through 5G.




The National Science Foundation’s Convergence Accelerator is accelerating research and discovery into practice through a new funding opportunity for a new research track topic: Securely Operating Through 5G Infrastructure.

Partnering with the Department of Defense’s Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, OUSD(RE), the NSF Convergence Accelerator has published a Solicitation, NSF 22-538 and Broad Agency Announcement (BAA), NSFBAA-CA22-01, to provide two submission pathways for researchers and innovators to submit their proposal.

In this 90 minute informational webinar, participants will learn about

  • The NSF Convergence Accelerator program, to include our phased approach and innovation processes used to accelerate basic research into practice
  • The DoD’s 5G initiative to include the Operate Through program, and
  • The funding opportunity to include the research track focuses, required Convergence Accelerator fundamentals, and important submission information

Optional 30 minute Sub-Track Breakouts

Join us after the webinar for an optional 30 minute breakout session featuring the three Track G sub-tracks: Non-Cooperative Networks, Cooperative Networks, and Tailored Networks. Here you can ask additional questions and engage with similarly-interested stakeholders and researchers to potentially assist you in forming your team and proposal.


Track G- Securely Operating through 5G Infrastructure

5G wireless networks are crucial components of modern communication systems and have become essential to national security. The goal of this track is to seek enhancements to end devices and/or augmentations to 5G infrastructure so that military, government, and critical infrastructure operators have the capability to operate through public 5G networks whenever possible, while meeting security and resilience requirements. Leveraging existing commercial technologies and network deployments allow operators to take advantage of commercial advances in 5G technologies while potentially decreasing costs, increasing coverage, and providing added resilience to critical communication needs.
