What Space Technology Can Do for the West Indies

An introductory session discussing the potential benefits and feasibility of space technology to the Caribbean.




(The “WI” in the title is a play on the word “we”. WI stands for West Indies, which is another name the collection Caribbean of islands with similar history/culture is called. The phrasing of the title also represents common Caribbean dialect so instead of saying “What space can do for us”, some Caribbean natives might say “What Space can do for we”).

Based on the 17th Sustainable Development Goal, the purpose of this webinar is to discuss ways to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development in the Caribbean.

A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society. These inclusive partnerships, built upon principles and values, a shared vision, and shared goals that place the Caribbean and its citizens at the center of the partnership.

This webinar will also discuss ways that space technologies can enable:

1) international cooperation initiatives,

2) the exchange of data and information,

3) the sharing of infrastructure and exchange of technical know-how, and

4) give access to open source databases in an effort to create a unified Caribbean space agenda.
