About the Panelists:

Vivan Marwaha, Author and User Researcher

Vivan Marwaha is the author of What Millennials Want and a user researcher who works on technology projects in emerging markets. A millennial himself, he cares deeply about understanding India and its future through its youth. He has lived and worked in New Delhi, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and Buenos Aires, and has written for the Washington Post, New Statesman, Mint, and Times of India, among other publications.

Zak Dychtwald, Author of¬†Young China, Founder of Young China Group, CC ‚Äė12

Zak Dychtwald is the author of¬†Young China: How the Restless Generation Will Change Their Country and the World, which explores how the country’s young generation feels about everything from sex and romance, to education and the high personal costs of competition. The founder and CEO of Young China Group, Zak has spoken at forums across six continents and his insights have been featured in The Atlantic, Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, and others. A CC ’12 graduate, Columbia magazine ran a feature ‚ÄúBright Young Things‚ÄĚ on his work, with an excerpt you can read¬†here.

Dr. Vishakha N. Desai, Chair of the Committee on Global Thought, President Emerita, Asia Society

Dr. Vishakha N. Desai is the Chair of the Committee on Global Thought, co-principal investigator of the CGT‚Äôs ‚ÄúYouth in a Changing World‚ÄĚ project, and Senior Advisor for Global Affairs to the President of Columbia University. During her tenure as the president of Asia Society, she developed a major interdisciplinary program for young leaders entitled Asia 21. She has also worked with youth across the world as the Chair of AFS Intercultural Programs. Dr. Desai is the author of a recent memoir,¬†World as Family: A Journey of Multi-Rooted Belongings¬†(Columbia University Press) intended for young “global natives.”
